It's the time of year when the seasons are shifting and the smell of pumpkin something will permeate the atmosphere. And bibliophiles everywhere are looking forward to snuggling up with new books and slipping into another world.

The fall and winter season for Algonquin is going to give readers that little slice of cozy and grit that we all love.

I loved Crissy Van Meter's essay in the Algonquin catalog. It was raw and emotional--the kind of thing that speaks true to your soul. The love she has for her dad bleeds through the page.

I have a feeling her novel Creatures is going have that same emotional pull.

Everywhere You Don't Belong is the story of a guy who doesn't know where he belongs. It's a theme that resonates with most of us. Gabriel Bump introduces readers to Claude's life during the civil rights era in Chicago.

It promises to be a strong debut.

I enjoyed reading Brock Clarke's essay, as well. I loved how he explained that books come from other books. I've always heard that when writing, authors should bridge the gap of literature--add a story that's not already there. I believe that's what Brock Clarke has done in Who Are You, Calvin Bledsoe?

The style and tone of the excerpt hooked me right away.

"Larry Brown wrote the way the best singers sing: with honesty, grit, and the kind of raw emotion that stabs you right in the heart. He was a singular American treasure."
—Tim McGraw
The letter by Larry Brown included in the catalog was so authentic and moving. As a writer myself, I could relate to his emotions and struggle. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read it.

Tiny Love is a collection of Larry Brown's stories that help see the South for what it truly is. A masterful southern writer, Larry Brown has long held the hearts of readers and will continue to do so for many, many more years to come.
